The Australian Broadcasting Corporation or ABC is Australia’s biggest broadcaster, marketing, and entertainment organization. Throughout seventy years from when it first started operating, ABC Television has built a distinguishing part of the Australian lifestyle. The corporation is Australia’s lone non-commercial, national broadcaster, which has become a significant component of the cultural heritage of Australia, fostering the nation’s arts and cultural diversity.

The ABC was inaugurated on the 1st of July in 1932 by the Prime Minister Joseph Lyons. During this time, ABC managed twelve stations which included 2BL and 2FC in Sydney, 3LO and 3AR in Melbourne, Brisbane 4QG, Adelaide 5CL, Perth 6WF, Hobart 7ZL, and relay stations Newcastle 2NC, Corowa 2CO, Rockhampton 4RK, and Crystal brook 5CK. Stations opened in the morning and evening, having a transmission break at some point in the day. Every program that went on air in the early days were live; disc recorder was set up in the studios of Sydney in 1935, and in the mid-fifties the tape arrived, then hard disc, and afterward the wire recorder, which were the lone ways for footage program material.

Early on in 1946, ABC keenly observed the progress overseas of latest methods in television. In June of 1949, the new Menzies Government permitted ABC to experimentally plan one station of television in Sydney. After 1953’s Television Act, ABC was chosen the national television authority. In 1954, ABC started planning the opening of national television service, where they acquired land, built accommodation, and set up studios, as well as training staff in Melbourne and Sydney.

When ABC television transmission in Australia started in 1956, channels tested on-air presentation approaches and methods of filling in-between program times. ABC Television wanted to make certain that even though programs had conflicting durations, every program would be started at scheduled times; typically on the hour or half hour. Commercial channels utilized paid advertisements; however ABC Television still had to search for other ways, as well as live-on-camera presentations. At times when this was not probable, the Television used filmed ‘fillers’ and audiences were presented with endless picturesque and charming pictures of boat trips on local rivers and the like.

The 20th century set forth an ABC Television with all the advancements of digital technology, with the most significant on digitization of production, as well as post-production and transmission, which is probably the highest progress in the technology of television since the prologue of color.

A Snapshot of the Actors who Portrayed Tarzan in Old Hollywood

Thursday 21 February 2008 @ 8:03 am

Hollywood has a long history of producing films about Tarzan, the king in the jungle. It might surprise you to know, that the character Tarzan started out as a book character. Also, there have been a lot of different actors and athletes that have played this famous he-man on the screen and on TV.

The first film about Tarzan was made in 1918, and it was a silent movie. Not only was it silent, but also Tarzan was a boy, played by the child actor Gordon Griffith. In the same year, another silent film on Tarzan was made by actor Elmo Lincoln, but this time he was all grown up. It was the first film in the movie industry to gross over $1,000,000. Strange as it may sound, Elmo starred in the critically acclaimed movie Birth of a Nation in 1915.

During the run of popular Tarzan movies, there would be 14 more that would play the role. After Lincoln, an over weight fireman from New York filled the shoes of Tarzan. A man named Tabler from the state of Tennessee, and an athlete to boot, would fill the role on screen. James Pierce was the next in line, and he related to the author the Tarzan legend and books, Burrough. Frank Merrill would be the 5th Tarzan, and he would make Tarzans feet famous, because he was the first to wear shoes for the character.

Along with Weissmuller that would play Tarzan after Merrill, athletes would become identified with the role. Weissmuller”€™s handsome and rugged good looks, made him famous, along with his role as the ape-man of the jungle. Most people today remember him as the man that played in the role, but there would be others. Buster Crabbe was an Olympic winner just like Weissmuller, and he would star several times as Tarzan. Another star athlete and later a film star played him too. Morris was next in line, and he was a championship runner.

The line of athletes was broken when a Tarzan role went to an actor that later married the famous film goddess, Lana Turner. Again though, athletes were in demand for the role, but it became a little diversified. A host of basketball, stuntmen and football players took the role, and made the Tarzan character even more famous. The role was first piped into American homes when Ron Ely made it famous for TV. Many kids of the 1960s remember the famous TV series that made Ely famous.

The role of Tarzan would not be complete without Jane. Like Tarzans role there was a whole host of Jane”€™s. From a lady name Markey to Morison, Jane completed the manhood of Tarzan. After all, that many good looking men, needing a life long companion as his love interest. The most famous couple of the big screen was Weissmuller and Maureen O”€™Sullivan. From the early 1930s to the early 1940s, they lit up the screen with passion and adventure.

O”€™Sullivan and Weissmuller got along onset, but neither one of them really cared for their roles as Tarzan or Jane. Maureen was from Ireland and seemed to fit the part perfectly because she was feminine, out spoken, and dared to put up with the Tarzans escapades. The set was full of hazards for both. Mosquito and money bites were a common occurrence, and at that time O”€™Sullivan had to give most of her lines behind props because she was pregnant. Weissmuller even got his nose broken when he ran into the side of an elephant. Today it would be hard to imagine any actor or actress that would not want a CG artist to paint the animals and landscape in, especially when one of them was pregnant.

The role of Tarzan is part of the great Americana film history and legend. It goes on today, and it is a sure thing it will never die out, but go on as it always has, with intrigue and wonder for the movie audience.

A Newbie’s Guide to Adding Streaming Video and Audio to a Website

Wednesday 20 February 2008 @ 10:48 am
Net Movie Downloads. From The #1 Sellers On Cb, Make Money With This Hot Movie Download Site. Mp3 Movies Tv Shows.

Understanding that adding video and audio to your website takes time, effort and money is something a lot of people don”€™t realize when they want to impress people that visit their website. If you”€™re a new website owner with a product to sell, take a look at these facts about adding video and audio, and balance whether you can financially afford, and have the skills, or have time to learn them, for video and audio. Read on to learn more about it.

When you add video and audio to your website, know that if you have a lot of visitors, your bandwidth costs for it will go up. There”€™s the chance that if you have dramatic spikes in visitors at any time, your cost will go out of site, too. If you”€™re looking for a website host server, check out if they even allow streaming because some of them don”€™t. They just don”€™t have the server capacity to allow streaming and large bandwidth usage. Remember that having streaming ability at your website won”€™t be a cup of tea for some customers that want to find out about your product. Downloading takes time, even for a small file when you have dial up ISP services.

You”€™ll have to decide what type of software programs that you need for your website, too. Video and audio players take different kinds to play. Even between video players there are differences, and you”€™ll have to spend time either digitizing with MPEG, or settle for less quality with QuickTime software. Expense is a major issue with using MPEG software for video because you”€™ll have to purchase a digitizing board that starts around $5,000.00. Even if you decide to have someone else do it, it”€™s expensive, too. The costs per minute range from $65.00 to $100.00 and another issue is that a lot of formats for playing back aren”€™t compatible with other computer systems too.

After you”€™ve found some video, check to see how it was filmed. The better the quality, the easier it will be for you to digitize it. Remember, the more you have to work with, the more you”€™ll have to digitize it to look good on your website. Stick to regular sized captures for your video and on the Internet you”€™ll need to use 160×120 pixels per image for good video movies online. You”€™ll have to edit your video, too, and there are a lot of good programs out there on the market for you to edit. With these programs you can match up video segments, and splice them together to make a neat movie. There are other software programs such as Photoshop that can be used to add interesting affects to the video, just like with pictures in Photoshop. Stretching, warping, and layering are just some of the things that you can do.

For sound, you”€™ll need to purchase sound editing software like Macromedia. It allows you to take out sound from files in a program like QuickTime, and clean it up by making the sound clearer. When you start to edit the sound, make sure to listen to it in a quiet setting, and use earphones so you can hear sounds clearly. Sound compression software is necessary too, so you can make the file smaller, and clear in the audio track. Most people don”€™t take into account that sound is just as important as video, and pay little attention to its affect in the presentation on their websites. Recognize that sound makes an impression, and can give your product the shot in the arm that it needs to make a sell.

Uploading your file should be easy, but beware that you could go over the amount of disk space that”€™s allotted from your ISP server, and don”€™t forget your bandwidth either. Extra charges will be incurred, if they”€™re not paid, your website will be shut down. There will need to be a link placed from your website to the file that you”€™ve downloaded to your server. Always tell your visitor how much time it will take to download and its file size because if you don”€™t, people might not click on it, and you might just loose a sale.

A History of Movie Mainstay MGM–Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer

Tuesday 19 February 2008 @ 7:58 am
Movie Traffic? Google Tracking.

When you think about the movie industry, not many people really put much stock into the happenings behind the movie. Interestingly enough, it is the studio that easily should be getting all of the recognition for the film, not necessarily the actors or the director. It is the studio that buys the screenplay and from there, they decide who will best be suited to produce the film and who they deem the best possible candidate to direct the film. Then there are many decisions that will need to be made regarding the cast, the location, and just how much the budget will be for the making of the film itself.

Metro Goldwyn Mayer is a perfect example of such a movie studio. It was the combination of the Metro Pictures Corporation that was developed in the year 1916, the Goldwyn Pictures Corporation established in 1917, and the Louis B Meyer Pictures Company built in 1918 that all merged in the year 1924 to develop one of the largest movie studio corporations of all time. Founded in the year 1904, Loews Incorporated set forth to develop MGM, and it was in the works with the Vaudeville and movie theater chain. Luis B Mayer, given his eye for production and his success as an independent producer, was given the task of head of studio. He had with him prior to the merge, a young wiz kid of only 25 years of age by the name of Irving Thalberg. This young executive was slated to become the production head.

Albeit the fact that Metro was the managing and dominant partner in the whole merger, it was Goldwyn that actually provided the production at their Culver City studio. What was really interesting about the entire merger was that all of the company”€™s respective trademarks made the trip and survived the transfer. METRO”€™S mascot was Leo the Lion, and a parrot. Goldwyn”€™s corporate slogan was “€śArt For Art”€™s Sake”€ť, or “€śArs Gratia Artis”€ť, which is on the merged companies letterhead and logo. What was felt to be the most costly film of its time, Ben Hur was easily becoming a problem for Goldwyn, as there was not much in the way of usable film from the Rome location where it was being shot. Mayers then took over this production, brought it back to the Culver City studio and finished the shooting. This was known as a major PR triumph, which set the tone for MGM to be revered as a large, and industrious film production company. This tag stayed with the company for many years to come.

By the year 1927, Marcus Loew passed away, and all control of his assets went under immediate control of his associates. At one point a crafty rival theater company owner by the name of William Fox, felt that there was an opportunity for him to capitalize on this downfall of the larger grander MGM, and sought to purchase the entire empire and all of its holdings. This outraged the other two shareholders that were in association with Loew, and made attempt to thwart Fox”€™s financial advances by way of action through the Justice Department. In a strange, yet lucky stoke of fate, Fox suffered a massive injury prior to the completion of the sale, and by the time he recovered from the injury the stock market crash of 1929 found him broke and unable to finish the transaction. What transpired from the lack of the transaction was a thirty-year hatred between New York and Hollywood.

With an already stunning lineup of stars under their belts, MGM made the addition of some of Hollywood”€™s biggest names. Some of these big name stars were Norma Shearer, Joan Crawford, Greta Garbo, William Haines, and John Gilbert. Add this to the list of stars that were already well known, yet from other studios that they incorporated including, William Powell, Wallace Beery, Lon Chaney, and Buster Keaton. The studio was recognizing that they needed a star-studded lineup in order to appease the masses. This was definitely a good way to start. By the time they were finished they were known as the biggest and most prominent movie studios in the world.

50th wedding anniversary

Monday 18 February 2008 @ 8:55 am

There aren’t many who reach their 50th wedding anniversary, but for those who do, it is a very special moment in their lives. People are getting married later in life now, and many marriages aren’t making it past five years let alone fifty, and that makes this type of milestone even more special. If someone in your family is coming up upon this special time, there are many things you can do to make it extra special for them, and to remind them of how much you love them.

One great thing you can do for someone on their 50th wedding anniversary is to build them a book of memories. You can do this as a scrapbook if you want, but remember that it does not have to be anything fancy if you don’t have the time or talent. Scrapbooks can be rather elaborate today, but that doesn’t mean yours has to be in order to be special. You should gather memories, letters, photos, and anything else from family members that celebrate their marriage of fifty years.

Many families also like to have a large party of the 50th wedding anniversary. This can include family and friends of the couple, and it is a good touch to include children. Though some like to have events without the children, this is one time when they should be there. Nothing will symbolize the success of their 50th wedding anniversary than the reminder that their family is alive, strong, and still growing. Great grandchildren are especially important, if there are any, because many don’t live to see them.

You can decide what would be the most special for someone celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. If you don’t want to do a scrapbook, you can always have a slide show of pictures, or play a game that includes memories of special things the couple did together. You can also get out old home movies if there are any. If you only have film (like 8mm) you can get it transferred to VHS or to DVD so that you can play it without the film breaking or having to worry about finding a projector if you don’t have one any longer. Not only should this celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary, it should also be a celebration of love and marriage, it should also be a celebration of family and all that everyone holds dear in life.
