Totally different from the rest of the cinematic carnivals that are around, the Wild River Music Film Festival will still have its inaugural this coming September 6- 10, 2006. To be held in the downtown area of Saint Paul in Minnesota, the musical portion will showcase a myriad of diverse genres to be performed in an outdoor setting on Harriet Island and indoor venue at Roy Wilkins Auditorium.

Music headliners are Al Green who is believed to be the last great Southern soul singer, Taj Mahal who has preserved traditional acoustic blues, Nickel Creek where their style has a contemporary nerve, Mindy Smith who has an honest passion for the country classics, Tony Sims who is inspired by Sun Session heroes and White Light Riot where they can be best described as having self- expression free of self- indulgence, to name a few.

The movie parade of the Wild River Music Film Festival screens all the entries that come from different parts of the world. They are being viewed by the authorized persons in the 3M Theater at the Minnesota History Center. Disparate genres are featured in short flicks and featured documentaries. The premieres as well as the currently hot motion pictures that originate from far regions will also be carefully looked into.

Most of them are independent like the following that can be watched on the upcoming event: “Orquesta Tipica” from Argentina which is directed, written and produced by Nicolas Entel. “Homemade Hillbilly Jam” from United States which is written and directed by Rick Minnich. “Rubber Soul Project” which is from Serbia which is directed by Dinko Tucakovic. “Plagues and Pleasures on the Salton Sea” from United States which is directed by Christopher Metzier and Jeff Springer. “No Strings Attached” from Ireland which is written, directed and co- produced by Maria O’ Loughlin.

As for the comedy aspect of the Wild River Music Film Festival, it will highlight the sauciest spoofs and improve troupes inside the Twin Cities that consists of the Idiot Box and Brave New Workshop. There will be a stand- up satire that will present some of the trendiest comics in the town and even in a global scale. It will all be performed on board the Minnesota Showboat.

Here are some of the artists that will churn your stomachs by laughter. Mary Mack who is a fold humorist that loves to recount her stories in life. Eric Nigg who was able to discover his knack for amusing others at such a tender age. Maxine Jeffris who is simply foil for hilarious surprises to come.

The Wild River Music Film Festival is indeed one- of- a- kind as it goes away from the glitzy glamour of the Hollywood’s silhouette. For those who are interested, they have tickets for sale: weekend pass is at $37. 50, Saturday or Sunday are both at $20 and all venue pass is at $75.

Widescreen TV

PSP Blender - PSP Movie, Game, Downloads PSP Downloads. Movies, games and more. PSP Blender is the #1 PSP download site online.

At this point, many of us may not have a widescreen TV yet. I say this because I spent years in a video store, which ended in 2005. After renting out movies to people on a daily basis and witnessing their typical hate for widescreen, I came to the conclusion that they don’t know what they’re watching or they simply do not have a widescreen TV, which alleviates the confusion. Many do not understand the benefit of widescreen. Believe it or not, no matter what you interpret from your square television, widescreen offers you more picture. Some DVDs actually show you this. I spent countless occasions trying to explain this to customers who couldn’t get over the black bars, as they called it, on the top and bottom of their screen. The solution for many people would simply be to buy a widescreen television and problem solved. For others who have no plans of switching from their present square TV, I always explain that the amount of picture on their widescreen format DVDs is actually the same vertically. However, horizontally it is more picture. It is hard to get that across. You are basically watching the movie theater screen on your square television. More is revealed in each shot, so get over the bars.

If you simply can’t deal with the letterbox or widescreen version of films on your square TV, then what you need is a widescreen TV. Your problems will be solved. Since widescreen televisions are not so new of a concept any longer, you can afford one. You don’t have to venture out to Best Buy and select the largest, flat, plasma, wall mounted television available, there are a variety of options. Widescreen televisions are certainly a view of the future when it comes to home entertainment. Whether you’re mounting a big, flat panel on the wall, or sticking with a more old-school style of TV, you can be sure most will be widescreen. Just as VHS tapes have almost become obsolete, the square televisions will do the same. It’s all about the DVDs. Since we are getting closer and closer to that movie theater experience with surround sound, enormous picture, and perfect clarity, the widescreen TV will be essential. It suits the DVD format.

Although I haven’t yet resorted to the widescreen TV, it is only a matter of time and finances. These babies are unavoidable. The great thing is with technology like this, the prices only continue to go down once their available to the public.

Widescreen Television Formats

Saturday 9 February 2008 @ 8:36 am
Movie Site - 75% For You. Highest Converting Movie Site On Cb.

The popularity of widescreen television these days has hit the top; there’s nothing like being able to watch your favorite programs and movies on TV with a “cinematic” touch that makes you feel like you’re in the middle of the action, plus the added advantage of being in the comfort and luxury of your own home. Yes, this is what makes widescreen television one of the most remarkable entertainment luxuries of modern times; it’s a combination of high-technology and precision innovation.

Widescreen television experience may not have been possible without an important formatting process that has made it probable for pictures to reach widescreen televisions in a suitable image. Digital widescreen television format is the future’s format. Presently, one can obtain the full benefit of viewing “true” widescreen, known as 16:9-format, through having a widescreen television, as well as a digital reception; as most broadcasters transmit real widescreen on digital broadcasts.

Europe has noticeably excelled in this type of transmission as compared to the slower pace in the US where digital transmissions used are still on a 4:3 aspect ratio. Every UK network is already obtainable on widescreen digital, and an increasing number of stations in Europe are rapidly coming on line.

A digital set-top-box decoder hold settings that will allow specifying the TV screen’s size; the box has to be set to a format that would suit the television’s screen. Generally, integrated digital televisions are already widescreen formatted and set up to receive picture suitably.

The programs broadcasted on widescreen television have better, wider pictures that appear more normal to the eye. Therefore widescreen television provides an improved viewing experience. Interestingly, in the 1950’s, film shifted over to widescreen format to contend the increasing television popularity. In Europe, the television industry’s revitalization hugely came about through the opening of services for standard digital widescreen.

Widescreen television picture has a higher sampling rate to fit the current video line time; there is also a selection signal integrated with the signal for the widescreen picture that allows non-widescreen TV receiver to show a contiguous part of widescreen picture with no geometric deformation. The signal on widescreen television is transmitted through either a widescreen NTSC format or a MAC, and a decoder receives the signal. The decoder then permits the whole widescreen picture to be showed on a widescreen television.
The technology for digital widescreen television format is swiftly being adopted by everybody, and in the future it will become standard.

Why James Dean Was THE Bad Boy in Classic Hollywood Movies

Friday 8 February 2008 @ 7:37 am

Perhaps no other film actor represents youthful angst and rebellion than James Dean. He’s the icon of brooding youth, of troubled teens and adolescent angst. He’s the soulful bad boy of the silver screen. Before Johnny Depp and Paul Newman, there was James Dean. Although he was criticized in his lifetime as a Brando imitator, James Dean was always a true original. Even more than fifty years after his death, James Dean remains the bad boy of classic Hollywood cinema.

James Dean, Farm Boy

Even after all his Hollywood success, James Dean always identified with his humble farm boy roots. He was born on February 8, 1931 in Marion, Indiana. As a young boy, his family moved to Santa Monica after his father had abandoned farming to become a dental technician. When he was eight years old, his mother died of breast cancer. His mother’s early death would haunt him for the rest of his life. When he was nine, his father sent him back to Indiana, where he was taken by his Aunt Ortense and Uncle Marcus Winslow on a farm in Fairmount, Indiana. Dean would later recall his years in Indiana fondly. At Fairmount High School, his love of drama was ignited. After graduating, he moved back to California to live with is father and stepmother. He enrolled in Santa Monica College, and later transferred to UCLA to study drama. This caused a rupture between him and his father, resulting in estrangement.

Life in the Big Apple

Dean had trouble finding acting gigs in Hollywood, so he decided to move to New York with the hopes of pursuing stage work. New York proved fortuitous for Dean. He was accepted to study under prominent dramatic teacher Lee Strasberg in the Actor’s Studio. He started to pick up steady television work and a few theatrical roles.

Dean soon caught the eye of Elia Kazan, legendary theatrical and film director, who was looking to cast the role of Cal in the upcoming production of John Steinbeck’s East of Eden. The part came down to Paul Newman or Dean. After a screen test, Dean won the role of the alienated youth. This marked the beginning of an extraordinary career, remarkable both for its brevity and impact. James Dean died heartbreakingly young at the age of 24, in an automobile accident near Paso Robles, California.

Film Highlights From a Short But Unforgettable Career

James Dean is remarkable not only for his intense performances, but also for the fact that he was able to construct an enduring screen image in an incredibly short period of time. During his short lifetime, Dean only starred in three roles: his startling debut in East of Eden, his unforgettable and iconic performance in Rebel Without a Cause, and his impressive role in Giant. Even though he had only been acting for a short period of time, there is no whiff of the amateur in Dean’s performances. He is intense, startling, and mesmerizing on the big screen. Here are the highlights from a short but unforgettable career.

East of Eden (1955) : Based on the classic John Steinbeck novel, Dean plays Cal Trask, a young man growing up in the beautiful Salinas valley. Cal plays the son of a constantly disapproving father, who seems to favor his other “good” son Aaron. Dean plays Cal to perfection: he is emotional, spontaneous, and intense. Dean took this role personally, because the relationship between Cal and his father mirrored the real-life relationship he shared with his own father.

Rebel Without a Cause (1955) : The classic Hollywood movie about teenage angst and rebellion. Dean plays Jim, the new kid on the block who has trouble making friends and who steadily becomes more and more alienated from his parents. It has been said that our notion of the teenager was created in the post-war 1950s, and this movie, especially Dean’s performance did much to create and popularize the image of the rebellious teenager.

Giant (1956) : A giant of a film. A sprawling multigenerational epic about the life of a Texas family. Dean plays Jett Rink, an embittered poor ranch worker who strikes it rich. A strong performance from Dean, who was posthumously nominated for an Oscar.

All three of Dean’s films stand up over time, and his performances still resonate with young people and film lovers all over the world.
