“Anvil!” nabs documentary group award (Reuters)

Reuters - “Anvil! The Story of Anvil,” the well-reviewed film about a veteran Canadian rock band, did not make the short list for the documentary Oscar, but it has been named best music doc by the International Documentary Association.

U.S. war drama wins top film at Gotham awards (Reuters)

Reuters - “The Hurt Locker,” a suspense film about a U.S. Army bomb squad unit that defuses bombs in Iraq, won best feature on Monday at the Gotham awards, the top U.S. East Coast independent film awards.

But midway through the movie, there is a flash of the old, unpredictable and delightfully unmanageable De Niro when his character, feeling unappreciated by his grown children, goes off on a subway panhandler for a perceived breach of etiquette.

`New Moon’ keeps shining with $42.9M weekend (AP)

AP - “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” finished at the top of the Thanksgiving weekend box office with $42.9 million, while “The Blind Side” ran a close second at $40.1 million.
